San Francisco PanoramaEver since San Francisco's historic Ferry Building reopened, in 2003, as a gourmet emporium with upscale restaurants, shops and a farmer's market the city's formerly dreary Embardadero district has been revitalized. The latest addition to the northeastern neighborhood is the eight-story Hotel Vitale, across the street from the Ferry Building. The hotel has serene interiors, featuring lots of natural materials and a muted color scheme, and cossets guests with complimentary yoga classes, rooftop soaking tubs and bath products by Fresh. But its finest amenity is the unobstructed bay view form many of the 199 rooms frankly, there's little point in staying here if you don't have a room with a view. For the most dramatic vistas, reserve one of the seven circular Panoramic Suites, which have floor-to-ceiling windows; you can even admire views of the Bay Bridge and beyond while relaxing in the limestone bathtub. Other nice details include Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and copies of Patricia Unterman's San Francisco Food Lover's Guide, which sit on bedside tables in each room (the hotels location is great for foodies). Be aware that the Americano Restaurant & Bar, on the ground floor, attracts a somewhat rowdy postwork crowd from the nearby financial district. But there's no need to wrestle for a spot to rest your wineglass. Order room service instead, and watch the sun set from the tranquility of your waterfront sanctum. |
